Intelligent Office UK has announced the acquisition of a controlling stake in Lawscript, a provider of transcription services to law firms.
Lawscript was established in 2003 by Lorna Edwards and has a team of over 20 secretaries and paralegals.
The group, with bases in Scotland and Swindon, says Birmingham is a key market. Law firm Clarke Will-mott which has offices in the city is a client.
Margaret Lang, chief executive of Intelligent Office UK, said that, as one of the leading business centres in the UK, it was looking to Birmingham for "significant growth".
Intelligent Office UK provides specialist business process outsourcing services to law firms including document management, file management and front of house services, within the firms' own premises.
It said the acquisition of Lawscript would enable it to offer law firms 24 hour transcription services providing cover for holidays, absence or increased workload, removing the need to employ costly temporary staff.
Lawscript's client base includes many law firms as well as financial advisers, estate agents, police and fire services, the Law Society of Scotland and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland.
