Engineering firm IMI has bought an American maker of food and drink machine parts in an £8.5 million deal.

IMI, based at Birmingham Business Park in Solihull, sealed the deal for Northern Parts, which employs 60 at its base in Plattsburgh, New York state.

Northern will extend the beverage parts business in IMI's Beverage Dispense unit, the company said.

The deal was announced as IMI also revealed it had completed the purchase of Japanese valve maker ABB KK, which had been announced last month.

IMI executive director Wayne Whitney said: "The acquisition of Northern extends our ability to support our customers."
