Richard Hyde is to be the new deputy chairman of Advantage West Midlands.
Mr Hyde, who has been a board member since December 2002, will replace Norman Price who leaves the organisation in December.
Chairman Nick Paul said: "Whilst I am extremely sad to see the departure of Norman, who has done an outstanding job in his seven years on our board and three years in his role as deputy chairman, I am certain that Richard will play an equally strong role in the continuing development of Advantage West Midlands and the region."
Mr Hyde is managing director of Brian Hyde, a DIY and industrial consumables distributor. He also represents Stratford-upon-Avon on Warwickshire County Council and was previously deputy leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
He is deputy leader of the Conservative group on the West Midlands Local Government Association.
He said: "I will be doing all I can to support Nick and the executive team in leading the economic regeneration of the West Midlands.
"I am also excited by this great opportunity to help shape and influence the economic regeneration agenda from right at the centre of Advantage West Midlands."
Meanwhile, Geoff Fenlon has been appointed the new general manager of Birmingham's International Convention Centre.
Currently business excellence director at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, he will take up his new post on January 15.
He will be responsible for sales and operations at the ICC and will report to Nick Waight, managing director, group convention centres.
