A disabled Birmingham boy will be able to sleep easier thanks to staff at a hotel in Meriden who helped raise thousands of pounds for a specialist bed.

The Marriott Forest of Arden, in Meriden, raised £3,028 to pay for essential equipment for Birmingham child Jack Byrne.

Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children, based in Cannock, Staffordshire, is the leading children’s disability charity that works to provide a range of services for children and their families with disabilities across the UK.

The much-needed money raised by the hotel was through a combination of fund-raising sales and donations. The money will go towards funding a specialist padded bed for Jack to regain the independence he desperately requires.

Jack, from Acocks Green, has a rare form of epilepsy called West Syndrome which he contracted in the first few months of life.

This causes seizures, he is not able to speak, and has not been able to sleep without one of his parents near him for safety for years.

Now he has his bed he can sleep more independently.

Father Patrick Byrne said: “Getting this bed has been brilliant for us and our family and it will really help to give him more freedom.

“Jack has never been able to sleep on his own because of the seizures and he will be able to do that now. We are very thankful to Newlife and the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel.”
