Brummie realists have pushed down house prices in a bid to shift their property.

After reaching a peak in February of £173,719, asking prices declined by 0.7 per cent or £1,243 to £172,476 this month. Over the past year, prices have leapt by 10.1 per cent locally.

The dip is in stark contrast to most of the rest of the country where asking prices are on the up - surging to an average of £194,962, ahead £1,132, a 0.6 per cent rise.

But survey organisers Rightmove say asking prices are over-optimistic, and buyers aren't prepared to pay.

It stated: "110,000 new sellers added to the growing over-supply, as stock levels per estate agent rose six per cent this month to stand a third higher than a year ago.

"The number of properties coming on the market is almost twice that coming off, the biggest imbalance in three years."
