Two Birmingham marketing executives are in line to be fast-tracked - to around 125 mph.

Nikki Welsby, aged 29, and Beverley Weston, aged 35, are hoping to line up as competitors in the Club Formula Woman Race series, but first they've got the minor challenge of seeing off around 10,000 rivals to get a spot on the starting grid.

The two are undergoing assessments to see if they can get into the last 100 - which will then be whittled down to a manageable starting grid for a race series next year.

The rigorous tests take place at the home of the BBC's Top Gear at Dunsfold Park, Surrey, and involve driving skills ( obviously) and also include physical fitness assessments.

The cars used are Chateram 7s - which hurtle around at around 125mph.

Nikki, Birminghambased marketing manager for M&B, said: "I'm an absolute motorsport nut. I love driving and track days. I'm just hoping I get selected."

Beverley, marketing manager with city-based Challinors Solicitors, is also a huge motor sports fan.

She said: "I try to get to at least one overseas grand prix a year. Even my mum knows not to ring when there is a race on."

The two are enjoying the high-speed challenge and Nikki said: "We'll just have to see how far we can progress."
