Black Country law firm Higgs & Sons has boxed clever and advised on the acquisition of a coffin manufacturer.
The firm acted for Stewart Jukes whose company, Jukes Holdings, acquired F E Harris, a long-established coffin maker based in Plymouth for an undisclosed sum.
Jukes is involved in the manufacture and sale of coffins and funeral supplies and has operations in West Bromwich and Upton-on-Severn.
The deal to buy Harris was complex and involved the refinancing of the whole Jukes group in order to raise funds to pay off all existing group debts.
David Ellis, head of the corporate and commercial division at Higgs & Sons, said: ?The deal gives Jukes Holdings a very powerful position within the industry and will make it the largest independent coffin manufacturer in the UK.
? There areare approximately 60,000 deaths in the UK every year and our client will now be responsible for supplying caskets for 15 per cent of these.?
Also involved from Higgs & Sons were property law specialists Neil Stockall and Andrew Jones.
Mr Jukes said: ?We?re now in a position to offer a nation-wide service.?
