A trainee solicitor, inspired at a Thrive forum to respond to pitches from city-based charities, is organising a similar session to motivate other lawyers.

Harjinder Samra from the law firm Hammonds is helping to co-ordinate a quiz on Monday, December 10th, which will include invited charities making a pitch to the teams. The get-together at the Blue Mango restaurant is open to Birmingham Trainee Solicitors Society that boasts a 400-strong membership.

The charities making pitches are Acorns Hospice, West Midlands Lupus Group, St Basils, that helps young people facing home-lessness, St Mary's Hospice and Baby Lifeline, that supports research into infant deaths.

Harjinder said the invitation was sent after she attended the Thrive forum that was run at Birmingham Rep with Birmingham Future.

Although well attended Harjinder felt more would have attended if entry had been free and believed it was an excellent way of hearing how charities need the help of business professionals.

"I felt really inspired after the forum and it gave me a lot of ideas," said Harjinder, who is already supportive of charities including join in the sleep out for St Basil's this Friday.

"I think people are really interested in knowing how they can get involved and we thought if we combined it with a quiz it would be a fun evening."

The restaurant's package has enabled the society to keep costs down and invitations went out last week to all society members. For further details contact Harjinder at harjinder.samra@hammonds.com
