Staff from a firm of Birmingham solicitors exchanged the formalities of the office and client meetings for a day of hard labour.

The pin-stripe chain gang grabbed shovels and picks when they visited a school to transform the gardens.

As part of the Birmingham Cares employee volunteering initiative promoted by Business in the Community, 32 staff from the Birmingham office of Hammonds - including partners and fee earners - took the chance give their time and skills to help Chad Vale Primary School in Harborne.

The Business in the Community initiative was set up to improve the overall quality of life for people who live and work in Birmingham through employee volunteering opportunities.

The team put in more than 350 combined hours of gruelling labour to turn the school's garden into a reading/quiet area for the pupils.

A jeans at work day for all at Hammonds also raised an additional £80, which was spent on new benches for the area.
