The first woman to head a UK Asian business organisation has pledged to encourage more women into industry and help small firms.
Gurjeet Bains (left) has replaced Sarindar Singh Sahota as chairman of the Institute of Asian Businesses, which is based in Birmingham. The new vice chairman will be Mohammed Zulfiquar.
The IAB is the largest Asian business support organisation in the country, with a membership of almost 400 companies across the region.
Mrs Bains, who is also editor of the English section of the Sikh Times, said: "It is a huge honour take over the leadership of such an important business organisation.
"I'm passionate about the progression Asian businesses should make in Birmingham and I hope that my being a woman will encourage other women to not only get more involved in business but also take the initiative and start up on their own.
"When I started out it was very difficult to make an impact but the landscape has changed and I hope other women will be inspired."
