Day-trippers, drinkers and clubbers could soon be able to find out the latest on their favourite venues by text message, thanks to a new system by one local entrepreneur.
Gurj Bancil, founder of IDM, has launched a new mobile phone marketing technique which taps into business's demand for direct advertising.
The company, based at Coventry University's Technology Park on Puma Way, can send test messages to mobile phone users using a five-digit number and the business name as a keyword.
"If a bar wants to advertise a promotional night, they can print their keyw ord and five-digit number on their posters and flyers," said Ms Bancil.
"Customers can then text in to find out what's happening at that venue on a particular day or week.
"Not only does this save customers the hassle of ringing up a venue or logging on to their website, it also gives them up-to-date information instantly."
Discussions are currently taking place to run month-long free trials at a number of bars, nightclubs and cinemas in Coventry.
Ms Bancil developed the idea whilst on Coventry University's enterprise fellowship scheme.
