Small businesses in the West Midlands have a new website to keep them up to date on changes to environmental law.
Called NetRegs, the site offers advice to small businesses from all sectors on their environmental obligations.
The service, a joint initiative run by the environment agencies of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, was launched after a survey of English small businesses revealed 82 per cent could not name any environmental laws.
Almost half also said they wanted more information and advice on environmental issues.
The website offers businesses free email updates and links to further information and advice.
These can be personalised to provide information relating to specific industry sectors.
"Keeping abreast of legislation can be a real challenge for the average small business," said Tim Fanshawe, business development manager at NetRegs.
"And very often environmental concerns are the first to slip off the radar."
"The rising cost of waste disposal means that looking for ways to improve environ-mental performance can no longer be avoided.
"Ignorance of environmental legislation and best practice could prove costly for West Midland small businesses."
