Shoosmiths' Midlands corporate and commercial team has been boosted with the appointment of corporate heavyweight Chris Garnett from Eversheds' Birmingham office.

He joins as an equity partner on May 1 as part of a continued expansion of the firm's corporate finance team across the Birmingham and Nottingham markets.

He has been a partner at Eversheds for 14 years, advising large corporates such as Centrica, Taylor Woodrow and the AA.

Mr Garnett has advised on many significant Midlands deals including the £229 million takeover of Leicestershire-based Druck Holdings by GE.

He said: "I've been really impressed with Shoosmiths' ambitious plans to grow its corporate business in the Midlands and I am looking forward to being part of it."

Mr Garnett's appointment brings the total number of lawyers in Shoosmiths' organisation to 57.
