Security firm G4S Events has signed a five-year contract with Edgbaston Stadium, home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC).

G4S will provide security, stewarding, safety and crowd management at all of Edgbaston’s domestic and international cricket matches as well as non-sporting events.

In addition to providing security services, G4S will sponsor the Warwickshire Academy, youth teams and community programme, which supports local schools and junior cricketers in the region.

James McLaughlin, commercial director at WCCC, added: “G4S’s portfolio and expertise of securing some of the UK’s leading sporting venues was key to our decision to award this contract and we look forward to working with them at all events in the future – from Test Matches to conferences and events.

“Our new redeveloped stadium has given us more scope to provide innovative sponsorship opportunities for industry leading brands.

“This package of G4S supporting the academy and community programme is a perfect example of this, which will help many of our young cricketers progress their careers in the game.”

Eric Alexander, managing director of G4S Events, said: “Securing the second-largest cricketing venue in the United Kingdom further broadens our growing portfolio of event security contracts in the sport and leisure industry.”
