Unlikely bar stewards lined up at the Metro Bar and Grill to support a fundraiser for the Birmingham Community Foundation.

All six, Graham Nicol, Nick Venning, John Matthews, David Bucknall, Derek Inman and Tom Williams took stints behind the bar and customers encouraged to give tips along with a little heckling here and there.

Pumps were sponsored by Drivers Jonas, Barclays Wealth, Greenwoods, Pertemps,

Rider Levett Bucknall and Shaylor Group. Pump sponsorship, together with tips and a donation by Metro owner Chris Kelly, the two-hour stint behind the bar raised about £2,000. With the government’s current match funding incentive in place for the Birmingham Community Foundation, this totals £4,000 that is heading towards the endowment pot. Using this incentive the local charity plans to build up the endowment funds with the aim of using the interest to fund more than 900 projects whilst keeping the capital in place. Core Marketing also sponsored the labels, PCL Digital the table leaflet and local Heart FM DJ Ed James also popped in to be a barman for an hour.
