The owner of a chain of London wine bars signalled plans for expansion outside the capital after buying the American- themed chain Henry J Bean's.
Hartford Group, which operates 25 bars and restaurants in and around London, hopes the £5.8 million deal will be followed by targeted expansion of the Bean's brand, which is best known for cocktails and its open grill food concept.
Henry J Bean's has managed outlets in Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham, as well as sites at Chelsea and Camden in north London and franchise agreements in Europe, South America and the Far East.
It generated sales of £5.8 million in the year to March 27, with profits of £600,000.
Hartford added that its own trading performance continued to be strong with likefor-like sales ahead 3.7 per cent in the financial year just completed.
