A Shropshire company which has developed a pioneering aerosol piercing unit has been showcasing its produce at a top innovation event.

Last year, Pressing Solutions of Oswestry received #10,000 from the Innovation Networks programme which is funded by Advantage West Midlands. Husband and wife team Brian and Edwina Watson used the funding to create the revolutionary unit which allows the safe piercing of aerosol cans, contains the propellant and filters it through carbon filters to eliminate the gasses.

This offers companies who regularly use aerosols a way of cheaply and safely disposing of the empty cans which can then be recycled as metals instead of causing problems at landfill.

Already, the company - which employs five staff on the Maesyclawdd Industrial Estate - has sold the aerosol piercing unit to customers in the UK and the United Arab Emirates.

Users already benefiting from savings include Caterpillar, Johnson Controls and local authorities and a larger unit to take 750ml units is now ready to market the construction industry.

The firm was among the exhibits at the Making Innovation Real event at Coventry Technocentre.
