A new veterinary practice has opened in Rugeley after a £150,000 loan was secured.

Number 1 Vets, an independent practice focused on the treatment of companion animals, has opened after being backed by Lloyds TSB Commercial.

The business is located on Brereton Road in Rugeley and occupies the site of the former Britannia pub which had previously been closed for more than two years.

Christopher Bailey, relationship manager for Lloyds TSB Commercial, said: “This is an exciting and innovative new start-up business which has very quickly established an extremely loyal customer base in the region.”

With a specialist focus on providing the local community with a more accessible and personal veterinary care service, business owner James Cadwallader is actually living above the new surgery. He will provide out-of-hours cover to his customers, so local pet owners can get emergency veterinary care for their animals, 24 hours a day.

Mr Cadwallader said: “I know Rugeley and the wider Staffordshire region extremely well, having lived and worked here for more than 13 years, so when the opportunity arose to purchase the premises I knew this was the perfect opportunity to establish my own veterinary practice.”
