The senior partner at Deloitte in the West Midlands says confidence has returned to the region after the professional services firm revealed a revenue rise.

The West Midlands operation, which employs 700 people, turned over £130 million, contributing to an eight per cent sales rise, to £2.5 billion, across the country.

Chris Loughran, Midlands region senior partner at Deloitte, said that while the last year had been challenging, the performance had been strong – and the outlook was brighter.

He added: “There are also some positive signs for the future. Many businesses in our region are showing an increased appetite to take measured risk and invest for growth. We are seeing an upturn in demand for those services that help our clients to develop and execute their growth plans. This increased confidence is very encouraging.”

Across the UK, Deloitte delivered growth in all of its business divisions.

Consulting grew by 14 per cent, to £596 million, audit rose by 12 per cent, to £742 million, tax by six per cent, to £563 million, and corporate finance by one per cent to £405 million.

The firm said it has directly invested more than £1 million this year in helping small and medium sized companies to grow.

David Sproul, chief executive and senior partner of Deloitte, added: “We continue to make significant investments in the business, including a new pension scheme for our people which has attracted an additional 2,500 members. We have also invested in the breadth and depth of expertise we offer our clients and this is reflected in the growth we have achieved across our business.”

More than 3,000 people were recruited by the firm in last financial year, with 70 new partners promoted or recruited.
