Birmingham accountantcy firm BDO has announced the appointment of Phil Emmerson as a partner in its business restructuring team, in a move that sees him leave KPMG after 18 years.
Mr Emmerson specialises in advising businesses on how to stabilise, restructure and safeguard their futures, avoiding the formal insolvency route. He advises corporates on working capital management, improving operational performance, refinancing and restructuring.
Mark Anslow, partner and head of BDO in Birmingham, says the appointment highlights the firm’s commitment to investing in talent and the long term survival of the region’s businesses.
He said: “Phil’s appointment bolsters our advisory offering and provides clients with an additional layer of expertise that comes into play further up the decline curve.
“We are delighted to have him on board. He has significant experience in his field, which will no doubt prove valuable to both new and existing clients.”
Mr Emmerson said: “Providing real-life, commercial solutions to businesses that are underperforming, in crisis or simply want to ensure they are in a strong position for the future is crucial.
“Genuine restructuring has a huge role to play over the next few years. We are in a great position to provide solutions to management teams and key stakeholders, and offer the best advice on how to avoid insolvency.
“I would urge businesses to take stock of their financial position and operational performance and seek advice early if they have performance concerns.”
