Venture capital provider Midven has appointed Debbie Sorby as portfolio manager.
Ms Sorby, who has 18 years’ experience in similar roles, will be based at Midven’s Birmingham office and will look after portfolio companies based across the West Midlands.
In particular, she will manage relationships with the companies in Midven’s Exceed Fund, an £18 million fund launched in 2010 to provide expansion and development capital to businesses across the region.
Ms Sorby said: “Midven’s core ethos is about offering more than simply cash - we bring a wealth of experience, strategy and operational expertise.
“My role is very ‘hands on’ and will be all about maintaining and developing the relationships we have with our portfolio companies - working closely with them to help them achieve their growth objectives.”
Before joining Midven Ms Sorby worked with multi-national venture capital company 3i for 12 years and YFM Equity Partners.
Outside work she enjoys the outdoors and is a keen runner, having run several road marathons, off road marathons and ultra races to raise money for epilepsy and arthritis charities. She is also a keen horse rider and skier.
Established in 1990, Midven currently manages six funds representing a total of £76 million under management.
