Shaun Kelly has been appointed as head of business development on Spanish bank Santander’s UK Corporate Banking Board, with a brief to focus largely on Birmingham and the Midlands.
Mr Kelly has nearly 30 years’ banking experience, and before joining the bank ran the commercial operation of RBS in the Midlands, based at the St Phillips office.
In his new role, he will be responsible for driving new business by highlighting the expertise and support available from the bank. He will be focusing on a wide range of business types from small and medium-sized enterprises to corporate customers across both the Alliance & Leicester and Abbey brands.
Mr Kelly said: “Whilst my new role is an exciting national position, I’m naturally very close to the Midlands market and see a real need for a bank to get on the front foot with well run viable businesses that need financial support and solutions.
“Birmingham and the broader Midlands region has many resilient businesses that can come through the current challenging climate and then be well placed to take advantage of the future upturn.
“We are not a bank that wants to simply sell products for the short term. Our role is to listen, reflect and then provide sustainable sensible solutions in partnership with the client.
“Our business centres in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham are already providing support to many businesses in the Midlands and I believe this local presence together with our strong capital base and low risk profile means that we are well placed to offer the best support for businesses in the region.”
