Rushcliffe Care – one of the Midlands’ largest operators of nursing homes and adult care homes - has bought another Midland group in a deal aided by Lichfield solicitors Keelys.

Rushcliffe bought Nottingham-based Mappleton House Care Homes, which specialises in looking after adults with severe learning disabilities.

Keelys corporate partner David Kaplan acted for the firm in purchasing Mappleton, which operates two homes and employs 30 staff. Loughborough-based Rushcliffe Care will be looking to employ at least another ten people to run the two operations.

This latest acquisition brings the number of nursing homes and adult specialist care homes within the Rushcliffe Care group up to 29. It has units throughout the Midlands and south-east England and employs more than 1,000 staff, making it one of the UK’s largest independent care home operators. Recent acquisitions include Oakford Manor nursing home in Glossop and Moorcourt Developments Limited in Uttoxeter.

Financial advice was provided to Rushcliffe Care by Colin Peacock, head of corporate finance at Greenhalgh & Co, Nottingham, and funding was provided by Lloyds TSB. Philip Raven, of Freeth Cartwright, Nottingham, gave the vendor legal advice.

Mr Kaplan said: “We are delighted to secure this major deal for Keelys in Derby. I have acted for Rushcliffe Care for a number of years and was pleased that the company followed me when I moved to Keelys.

“Rushcliffe Care is a fast-growing and ambitious company with an excellent management team. The company is expanding and diversifying its operations to become one of the UK’s leading players in both the residential care and specialist care sectors.”

Rushcliffe Care chief executive Surjit Rai added: “Acquisitions form a key part of our growth strategy. We are delighted to be adding to our portfolio of homes dedicated to caring for adults with learning disabilities. This newest acquisition further strengthens our presence in the East Midlands and gives us additional geographical coverage across the UK.”

Rushcliffe care has won industry accolades including the best employer of more than 250 staff in the National Training Awards and Independent Care Operator of the Year.
