HSBC has revealed it provided over £1.9 billion of new lending to small and medium-sized businesses in the Midlands in 2012.

Roy Harris, HSBC regional commercial director for the Midlands, said: “HSBC remains committed to helping small and medium-sized companies in the Midlands to achieve their ambitions.

‘‘The gross new lending the bank provided during 2012 demonstrates that our doors are open for business, and we urge businesses to come and talk to us about their plans as we are in a strong position to help.

“During 2012 we saw a significant increase in the number of Midlands’ customers trading internationally.

‘‘We expect this to continue as UK businesses look to expand by accessing growing markets around the world.”

HSBC recently launched a multi-billion pound fund to help small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs to access or grow in markets across the world and fulfil their international ambitions.

With international trade being key to future UK growth, HSBC’s International SME Fund will make at least £5 billion of lending available to businesses with a turnover of up to £25 million.
