A Coventry expert in trade with China has been nominated for a prestigious title.
Mark Eaton, who heads the China Trade Liaison Office for the West Midlands at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, has been put forward for honorary citizenship in Shandong Province.
The province, home to 91 million, honours two foreign nationals each year and Mr Eaton is on a shortlist of ten.
Mr Eaton, who has visited China on trade missions for more than two decades, said: “It’s a massive honour just being on the shortlist.
“It would be such a great achievement for the West Midlands if I were to gain this status and underlines the very strong relationship we have developed.”
The decision will be announced in October.
“Honorary citizenship is normally reserved for those who have brought investment to the region,” he added. “However, my role has been different because I have developed two-way trade between Shandong and the West Midlands region.”
