The corporate finance team at Birmingham accountants BDO is toasting the completion of over 50 deals in the last 12 months.

The sale of Bristol-based tool and equipment hire business Brandon Hire marked the 50th deal since August 2009 for the Birmingham team.

Leamington-based Wolseley UK’s sale of its Irish businesses also features among the firm’s other notable deals, which have seen it enjoy particular success in the manufacturing, building products and financial services sectors.

The team has also advised on deals for clients including ABB, Marfrig, Birmingham City FC, West Bromwich Albion, Green Compliance, LDC, Lyceum and Paperchase.

BDO Birmingham corporate finance partner Roger Buckley said: “This level of activity is a fantastic achievement in this marketplace and shows the strength in depth of our corporate finance offering.

“We have been able to support both our private and publicly listed clients by offering local advice combined with international reach.

“This volume of deals has shown some interesting trends.

“We have found that private equity accounted for only a quarter of our activity in the last 12 months, with the remainder being driven by corporates.

“And the manufacturing, building products and financial services sectors have been particularly active.

“The key message from this headline is that buying or selling a business can still be an achievable ambition for many businessmen.”
