One of Warwickshire’s brightest entrepreneurs is set to represent the Midlands at the Lloyds TSB Enterprise Awards final on April 23 after winning the regional heat in Coventry.
Asap Water Crafts, a Warwickshire-based designer of small electric one person water crafts for the leisure and lifeguard markets, was named the winner in the Best Start Up category, which recognises a promising business in its early stages.
The enterprise was awarded the accolade because of the business’ determination to create a useful product which will help to save many lives. The small one person water craft was developed to help lifeguards rescue casualties quicker following first-hand experience of the difficulties associated with rescuing people in water.
Asap Water Crafts secured a cash prize of £1,000. It will also receive a two year mentoring package from Lloyds Banking Group, and will go on to compete with the 14 other winners from the regional heats at the grand final in Edgbaston with a chance to win further cash prizes.
Ross Kemp, founder, said: “The mentoring prize is going to be absolutely amazing as it will allow me to create the business that I want and achieve the goals I have in place. I’ll be using the prize money to develop the product through to manufacturing stage and to get to a time where we can sell the products to lifeguards and rescue stations, so hopefully you’ll see the rescue crafts on a beach near you soon.”
