Community lender ART said it will have £1.6 million available to lend to small firms whose bank can’t help them in 2011-12.

ART, which is set up as a community development financial institution with a remit to support job creation, has helped more than 500 borrowers since it was set up 14 years ago.

It is supported by private companies and individuals as well as local and national Government and European funding.

Steve Walker, chief executive of ART, said: “We have lent more than £9 million since we set up, to businesses operating in just about every sector.

“Our remit is to ensure that viable businesses in Birmingham and Solihull can access the finance they need.”
