Ernst & Young has received a major boost to its corporate finance operations with the arrival of new talent.
Stuart Crebo has joined the Birmingham mergers and acquisitions team as a director from the firm's Exeter office.
He will work with Mark Stanway, who has been newly promoted to director in the Birmingham office.
The move is in response to the continued strengthening of the West Midlands corporate finance market.
John Hughes, partner heading Ernst & Young's corporate finance team, said: "Over the last few months we have seen an increase in mergers and acquisition activity, including private equity deals.
"The recovery in share prices, combined with stronger corporate profits over the last year, has injected new energy into the marketplace for deals.
"Our pipeline of prospective deals gives us good grounds for optimism. We are talking to the directors of a number of companies aiming to sell noncore businesses as well as potential buyers."
Mr Crebo said: " The renewed links into the Birmingham marketplace are excellent news for our deal capabilities across our entire region.
"The economy in the West Midlands is changing as manufacturing businesses shift their areas of focus and the service sector continues to grow strongly. There is a real enthusiasm to make this change work for the region and a strong corporate finance sector will support this trend.
"With the drive for competitiveness still vital for business, we expect the market to continue to move ahead."
