Community and voluntary groups are being urged to register for a new advice surgery aimed at helping them with charity registration and improving their marketing, business planning and HR policies.
The two-hour session, which has been organised by Business in the Community’s ProHelp Network, will take place on Thursday, November 13, from 2-4pm at Birmingham Central Library as part of National ProBono Week.
Lawyers, designers, architects and accountants from Birmingham ProHelp will be on hand at the free-of-charge surgery and community organisations from across the region will be able to receive advice that would normally be out of their financial reach.
Simon Littlejohns, Partner at PKF and Chair of Birmingham ProHelp said: “This event during ProBono week is a brilliant opportunity for voluntary and community organisations to receive free expert advice and help on issues which might otherwise hinder their work and projects. Birmingham ProHelp members offer groups the same level of help as our fee paying clients. As a result we expect demand to be high so we advise groups to book early.” Between them, the Birmingham ProHelp members will offer a wide selection of advice from information about community interest companies and charity registration to help with marketing, business planning, budgeting, HR policies and planning permission.
The surgery is just one element of the award-winning group’s work, which also includes providing one-to-one professional advice to community organisations on feasibility studies, structural surveys, marketing plans and property valuations. Joan Cockburn, senior relationship manager at Business in the Community, said: “We have such a huge wealth of professional talent in the West Midlands and it is great news that so many individuals are willing to use their skills and expertise to help community organisations make a real difference to the lives of local people.’’
