Midland quarrying group Ennstone has expanded its operations in Poland with a £620,000 acquisition.

It has bought a ready-mix concrete operation close to Poznan that sells about 15,000 cubic metres a year.

The deal, which was struck by Ennstone's Polish subsidiary Ennbeton, includes the purchase of 32 hectares of land for a further £340,000.

Ennbeton plans to develop the land for mineral extraction.

Vaughan McLeod, chairman of Derbyshire-based Ennstone, said yesterday: "These strengthen our position in the southern part of our regional market in Poland.

"The sand and gravel site will be key to allowing us to build up reserves in a key area of our market."

Other developments at Ennstone included a placing and open offer of 59.4 million shares which raised £25.4 million.
