Small businesses in Birmingham are being urged to be energy efficient and save up to 20 per cent on energy bills as the economy continues to bite.

The call comes as energy company npower completes a series of small business energy makeovers – including one at a business in Birmingham - which have shown that saving energy is often one of the easiest ways of reducing costs.

Les Adey, the managing director of the Regency Press, said: “It’s the small things like switching to lower voltage light bulbs that are easy to change, but make a huge difference and we are now more aware than before as to what we need to do as a business to become more energy efficient.

“At times like these, every penny counts,” said Steve Fitzsimons, business energy manager at npower.
