Sir Digby Jones is to become a director of Leicester Tigers.

The CBI director-general joins the rugby club's board on November 1. Tigers chairman Peter Tom said: "Digby is a Tigers season ticket holder and acted as an advisor to the club during its transformation from a friendly society to a plc.

"I am delighted to welcome him to the board. He brings with him a wealth of business knowledge and commercial expertise which will be invaluable as we look to further strengthen our position as the leading rugby club in Europe and embark on an ambitious stadium development programme."

Sir Digby said: "I look forward to making a positive contribution to the ambitious and challenging plans the club has." The move follows the retirement of David Jones, chairman of Next, who served Tigers for eight years.

The club recently announced a record turnover of £12.65 million and record profits of just over £1 million.
