Birmingham Forward has lost out on another chairman.

Christine Braddock, deputy chairman, who would naturally have succeeded to the top job next year, has pulled out, blaming pressure of work. It is a second successive setback for the organisation.

It follows the previous year's controversial affair in which Andrew Sparrow was forced to quit the deputy position after coming under attack for criticising city council leader Mike Whitby. That saw Diane Benussi parachuted in and now she is in line for an unprecedented two year stint as chairman. A statement from Birmingham Forward read: "Christine indicated to the board that a range of commitments would mean that she could not offer the time the role deserves."

She is principal and chief executive of Matthew Boulton College, and recently accepted a role as Chancellor of Birmingham Community College, an amalgamation of six Birmingham establishements - the College of Food; South Birmingham; Sutton Coldfield; Josiah Mason; Joseph Chamberlain; and Matthew Boulton College.
