Birmingham-based software firm Delcam yesterday told shareholders that it had notched up record monthly sales in December.

The computer aided design software company said total sales for December came in at £3.75 million, an increase of nearly 32 per cent on the same month last year.

Additionally, total sales for the four quarter of the year rose by around 20 per cent year on year, maintaining Delcam's historic weighting of sales towards the second half and, in particular, the final three months.

Delcam said the results reflected its focus on developing sales of software ranges acquired during the past three years.

Managing director Hugh Humphreys said: "December has traditionally been Delcam's best month for software sales, so it is pleasing that we have continued this record and the ongoing strength of software sales is testimony to the quality of our product offering and capacity to sell globally.

"Although, as previously stated, the impact of the weak dollar affects our business, we continue to focus on developing international markets for all of our software ranges and this has been key to driving sales."

Delcam is due to publish preliminary results for the year to December 31 in mid-March.
