The development partner for the first phase of Birmingham's huge Arena Central development has been announced.

Arena Central Developments, the joint venture set up by Miller Developments and Bridgehouse Capital, has selected property firm Dandara. The scheme is a key regeneration site in the city.

Its progress signifies the next tranche of building on Birmingham's westside following the commercial success of the ICC, Brindleyplace and the NIA.

Steve Evans, director of Arena Central Developments, said yesterday: "The selection of Dandara as our develop-ment partner for the tower at Arena Central is a key step forward. The tower will be located adjacent to Alpha Tower, one of Birmingham's tallest buildings and will comprise a mix of active uses at the lower levels but will be predominantly residential.

"We are making good progress with Birmingham City Council planning and property teams to finalise the masterplan and progress development at the site."

Arena Central has outline planning for two million sq ft of mixed use development and includes consent for a tower of up to 175 metres high. It is expected that work will start in the second half of 2006.
