A new website has been launched that enables sixth form schools in Birmingham to build their very own iPhone application online in as little as 20 minutes.
Buildyourownsixthformschool includes an information page, news and events, videos and images, an enquiry form, Twitter and Facebook links and a contacts page.
The app builder allows sixth form schools to create their own app on screen. A simulated iPhone displays how the app is progressing, with options including the chance to change background and text colours, add the school’s logo, enter text and imagery and links to social networking sites.
The iPhone app simulator shows the user what the final app will look like and on completion one of the buildyourownsixthformschool app development team will check and submit the iPhone app to iTunes. Within 14 days the app will appear in the app store.
Neil Harding, managing director at Birmingham-based Smartphone Media, sister company of buildyourownapp, said: “We believe mobile is going to be bigger than the internet. Mobile technology is the way people are now accessing the web. The new expectation is that you can connect at any time, and that’s where the technology is headed.
“Smartphone Media has developed more than 50 bespoke iPhone and Android education-based apps in the last 18 months, from independent schools through to universities.
“We are keen to widen our net further but understand the cost of bespoke smartphone applications can be prohibitive for many.”
