Staffordshire-based digital marketing agency TAMBA has been appointed to work with Global Brands on a social media strategy for its vodka drink VK.

The agency was chosen after a competitive pitch to Global Brands, which distributes drinks such as Corky’s, Kick Energy, and Amigos Tequila Beer.

The social media activity will be centred round VK’s “Make a VKend of it” campaign and will include the creation of unique Facebook content, apps and competitions.

TAMBA chief executive Kay Hammond said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the VK project.

“Their target audience spends a lot of time online particularly on Facebook so we’re creating conversation on a platform which will naturally engage them.”

Kate Hodson, brand manager at VK, added: “We are very excited to be working with TAMBA to develop VK’s social media campaign.

“Social media is an important part of VK’s marketing strategy for 2011 as it’s the best way to reach our target consumers.

“TAMBA have developed some exciting ideas that we hope will cement VK as one of the most visible brands on the web.”

Meanwhile TAMBA has appointed a new creative director to its team.

Jon Harrison joins the award-winning viral and social media specialist after two years as production director at Stickee where he produced high-profile campaigns for BSKYB, McCains, ITV, Casio and Harper Collins.

Prior to that, hew worked for many years in the animation and games industry with stints at Blitz Studios, Runecraft and Gremlin Graphics.

In a career spanning more than 25 years Mr Harrison has worked on more than 180 games titles and several 3D animation projects for TV and the big screen.

In 1996 he codesigned the world’s first 3D pinball simulator and was a pioneer in the use of Silicon Graphic machines within the games industry.

He has also worked on several broadcast projects including Spooks and Fightbox for the BBC and major adverts and promotional films for LEGO.

As a traditional illustrator Mr Harrison’s work has also been seen in many published books, comics and websites.

He said: “TAMBA are an exciting company with huge ambition and passion to match.

“To get the chance to play a pivotal role in TAMBA’s plans for the future and help shape its evolution is an opportunity that I couldn’t pass on.

“I feel I can bring a lot to the table in terms of experience, and when you mix that with the talent already at TAMBA you have one hell of a powerful cocktail.”
