A "Made in the Midlands" deal has seen online recruitment website The Career Engineer sold to Trinity Mirror for £2 million.

Accountants PKF in Birmingham, including partner Paul Thompson and corporate finance executive Jenny Watson, advised the Bromsgrove company on its acquisition by Trinity Mirror, which also publishes The Birmingham Post.

Mr Thompson said: "The Career Engineer is an online jobs board specialising in engineering.

"It was acquired for an initial £2 million and a deferred consideration of up to £400,000, conditional on the achievement of specified operating targets over the next 12 months."

The Career Engineer had an annual turnover of £450,000 and employs six people, mostly in sales.

Trinity Mirror chief executive officer Sly Bailey said: "Career Engineer is a great fit for our digital recruitment portfolio, bringing new revenues and further building our position."
