The Creative City Awards 2008 is on the lookout for organisations around Birmingham to put themselves forward for nomination at this year’s ceremony.

Recognising the best of Birmingham’s creative talent, the Creative City Awards are an annual event showcasing the creative industry to the city and the rest of the country.

With over nine per cent of the city’s economic impact coming from the creative industries, the Creative City Awards are a prominent platform to recognise and celebrate the effect the dynamic industry has on our region.

Previous winners have included music studios, graphic design agencies, theatre companies and a regionally-run style and culture magazine.

The Creative City Awards, which will take place at the ICC on Saturday 29th November, are looking for small-to-medium enterprises who fall within one or more of the following categories; advertising, design and visual arts; heritage and museums, performing arts, screen-based media and radio, music, publishing and software.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong campaign-led work which has achieved significant success within their field or for their client and which demonstrates fresh and creative approaches to old and established strategies and tactics.

The Creative City Awards have seven categories in total and nominees can put themselves forward for one or more of the following categories: creative industries, innovation, outstanding business development (Birmingham), outstanding business development (regional), best newcomer, outstanding market development and best brand.

Nominations will be shortlisted with each category then judged independently by a panel of industry experts from arts and creative industry-based organisations.

The successful candidate from each category will receive coverage in The Birmingham Post and other media alongside a £2,000 development prize.

The Creative City Awards are organised by Birmingham City Council and candidates are invited to nominate themselves through the Council’s official website.

Full details on the awards and an online nominations form can be found by visiting: www.birmingham.gov.uk/creativecityawards

The deadline for nominations for this year’s Creative City Awards is midnight on 17th October.

Successfully shortlisted organisations will be announced first in The Birmingham Post and contacted directly by The Creative City Awards organisers.

The final winners will be announced at a black tie awards ceremony at Birmingham’s ICC on Saturday 29th November.
