A West Midlands racing car supplier is firmly in the fast lane after winning a top innovation award.

Lifeline Fire and Safety Systems, the Coventry-based manufacturer of fire suppression systems for the racing car industry, has been awarded the accolade of ‘Most Innovative New Product 2008.’

The company gained the honour for its ‘Zero Zero’ fire suppression system, believed the lightest and most compact ever produced.

The award was presented at the Race Tech World Motorsport Symposium at Oxford Brookes University after being assessed by a panel of experts.

Tested effectively on unleaded, diesel and bioethanol fuels, the ‘Zero Zero’ system uses just 1.5kg of the fire suppression agent Novec 1230 and has been given FIA approval for use in both single-seater racing cars and sports prototypes.

Jim Morris, director of Lifeline Fire and Safety Systems, said: “We are absolutely thrilled, not only to win such a prestigious award, but also to be recognised by our peers in the industry for a product which is not performance-enhancing, but simply designed to improve the safety of the driver.

“Zero Zero is an exciting new development in motorsport safety where the boundaries are always being pushed to the limit. We believe it is the very best in size, performance and efficiency.”

Lifeline Fire and Safety Systems, based in Burnsall Road, was established 14 years ago by Jim, who for the past three years has competed in single-seater racing, and his father John Morris, a former British Touring Car racing driver.

The company is recognised as the leading manufacturer of fire safety equipment and systems to the motor sport industry .

It has customers ranging from Aston Martin to Ford and Ferrari.

It also supplies a comprehensive range of fire suppression systems for other forms of transport including trains, buses, boats and armoured vehicles, as well as machinery. Lifeline recently completed a major contract to supply 1,000 systems to a leading international taxi company.

Lifeline says its continuous commitment to research and development has ensured that its customers have the most innovative and cutting edge products available.

Its products are used by world and national championship-winning drivers and constructors. In 2007 Lifeline won the MIA Small Business of the Year award, and is ISO:9001 accredited and an Investor in People employer.
