A husband and wife team are bidding to become the RAC of the mobile phone world after launching a call-out service to repair broken handsets.

Keir and Sarah McConomy say their iMend business is now helping to reconnect around 500 mobile phone users a week less than a year after launching.

The entrepreneurs, based in Burntwood, spotted a gap in the market and decided to set up the company with a team of 150 repair technicians dotted around the UK.

Mr McConomy said: "We had been having to get mobile phones repaired for years and when we looked at the repairs available for consumers in the market it normally involved going into town and walking into a shop, with all the hassle and inconvenience.

"We launched iMend in September and became the first in the UK to offer a nationwide call-out phone repair service.

"We have got 150 repair contractors all over the country. iMend has gone very well and is growing massively week by week.

"We believe we are giving consumers what they want, the feedback from customers has been amazing."

It has garnered positive feedback on Twitter with England rugby league player Garreth Carvell and TV chef Simon Rimmer among those singing its praises.

Mrs McConomy added: "It is all about delivering exemplary service. The whole world is on your phone now so you have to sort it out if something goes wrong.

"We have 15 in-house staff and a network of 150 repair technicians around the UK. We pass the jobs onto them and they go straight out to customers.

"Over 80 per cent of our repairs are done the same day. 80 per cent of our business is smashed phones."
