An award-winning public relations professional is keeping it in the family after joining the agency set up by his wife 18 months ago.
Pete Hitchman, the current Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Midlands Young Communicator of the Year, has joined his wife Marie at Sutton Coldfield-based Enamel Copywriting, providing specialist B2B writing and PR support to the creative industries.
The husband and wife duo, who spent a combined 13 years working for a number of Birmingham PR agencies, will work alongside each other as freelance consultants.
Enamel was founded by Ms Hitchman in 2014 after seeing first-hand how difficult it is for creative agencies to recruit good B2B and technical writers.
In that time she has worked with some of the region’s leading PR, marketing, web and design agencies, as well as directly for a range of local, national and international clients.
Now the addition of her husband, who was named Young Communicator of the Year at the CIPR PRide awards in Coventry last November, marks a new beginning for the family business.
Mr Hitchman, who has worked on big name brands as account director at both WPR Agency and Whistle PR in Birmingham, said: “I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with some fantastic agencies and I am hugely excited to bring all my experience to this new challenge.
“I’ve seen the lines between different communications disciplines continue to fade and there is an increasing demand for ‘content’ – whether that is PR, collateral, content marketing, digital or social - across earned, owned or paid channels. Being able to meet that demand is part of the reason why Enamel has been so successful already.
“We’re aiming to turn the traditional model of freelancers working from the kitchen table on its head.
“We work in partnership with creative agencies to deliver content for everything from websites, PR and white papers, to brochures, blogs and social media – always with a professional approach, at agency pace.”
Ms Hitchman added: “We’ve both seen at first-hand how hard it is to recruit good writers, especially those with a passion for technical B2B subjects, and Enamel was created with this in mind.
“We each bring our own skills and expertise, but with Pete on board we can take advantage of each others’ strengths, provide a second pair of eyes and pool resources if we need to – none of which is available from an individual freelancer.
“Pete is very well respected across the industry and we’re looking forward to working closely alongside each other.”
