Consumer sport and lifestyle PR firm Gung Ho Communications has bought London-based agency Coffin on Cake PR.

The Jewellery Quarter-based agency said the deal doubled the size of the agency's team and created "a unique proposition" in the sector, enabling it to meet growing demand for fully integrated communications and content across PR, web, mobile and social media channels.

Gung Ho's portfolio of clients includes sports clothing brands New Balance and Speedo and tech equipment manufacturer Garmin while Coffin on Cake works with clothing companies Lee Cooper, Farah and Roxy.

Coffin on Cake will form a division of Gung Ho and bring the firm's payroll up to more than 30 staff.

Gung Ho's managing director Paul Phedon said: "We have found a kindred spirit in Coffin on Cake.

"They are independent, entrepreneurial and their culture is about creating commercial yet creative solutions for their clients.

"This deal is born from a mutual desire to deliver breakthrough work and creates a new canvas of opportunities for us and our clients.

"Coffin on Cake's reputation in fashion and lifestyle is second to none and we are delighted to bring that experience into the Gung Ho fold."

Coffin on Cake's co-founder and managing director Dean Bennett added: "There's an obvious synergy between Coffin on Cake and Gung Ho and our partnership will create a formidable proposition in the market.

"Combined, we have a truly compelling and unique offering that excites our respective client bases and will be coveted by our future partners."

Gung Ho was advised by M&A Advisory.
