Around 100 video game and app developers are expected at an industry event in Birmingham Science Park Aston on how to get their products in the media spotlight.
‘Meet the Games Press and App Tech Media’ will be held on April 4 and is part of the 2012 Launch series of events, which culminates in a two-day future gaming conference in November.
Video games journalist and editor of Develop Magazine, Will Freeman, is headlining the event, which will be chaired by Dr Jo Twist, chief executive of The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment.
Also in attendance will be Matt Martin, editor of GamesIndustry.biz, Keith Stuart, games correspondent for The Guardian, Alex Wiltshire, editor of Edge Online, Keith Andrew, deputy editor, PocketGamer.biz, Natalie Griffith, head of PR and marketing at Blitz Games Studios and Rich Eddy, director of communications at Codemasters.
Matthew Hidderley, business development manager at Birmingham Science Park, said: “The event builds on the Science Park’s reputation for delivering the UK’s most active event programme for the burgeoning digital games industry.
“Each event in the Launch series is focused around the key milestones for new digital businesses; launch, develop and grow.”
“Eleven start-up gaming companies have been born in our Entrepreneurs for the Future business incubation centre, which illustrates the high-growth this sector is continuing to enjoy.
“We want to encourage more entrepreneurs to apply to be enrolled onto the programme, which offers six months free mentoring, advice, access to finance, office space, IT and telecoms connections.”
Will Freeman, editor, Develop Magazine, said: “Too many games developers haven’t had a chance to learn how to engage with journalists and how the press has adapted with the explosion of online and digital media platforms.
“This event provides developers with an ideal opportunity to quiz the press and gives the media a chance to give feedback to newcomers to the digital gaming industry.”
