Research shows value retailer Primark and BBC business editor Robert Peston are among the fastest-growing internet searches.

Search engine company Ask Jeeves compared searches in 2006 with this year and noticed a credit crunch-related trend.

The fastest-growing searches then included trawls for Armani suits, flight upgrades and buy-to-let mortgages whereas now the list features camping, debt advice and leftover recipes. Cesar Mascaraque, managing director: “The shift in questions we’ve been getting has been really dramatic in the last few years. Of course, the economic downturn has had a massive impact.”

The list was published after a relaunch, bringing back the butler character dropped in 2006. Other rising search topics are discount voucher codes and budget flights.
