Moseley-based branding agency Chosen has seen its successful B Card local shopping initiative extended by Birmingham City Council.

The agency has been heavily involved with schemes to “back Birmingham”, with new campaigns promoting the city’s “sparkling” Christmas offering and Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s festive fundraising.

Funded by central government, the B Card initiative will distribute more than two million money saving cards to residents.

The scheme is being advertised in radio, press, outdoor and online media across the city.

Chosen field marketing staff have so far signed up more than 1,000 independent retailers across Birmingham to participate in the scheme which offers B Card holders special offers and discounts when they buy local.

Originally planned to run for a month, the initiative has proved so popular, it has been extended until the end of the year.

The agency has also won the city’s leisure tourism brief, awarded by Marketing Birmingham, the first element of which is a high-profile Christmas campaign, including TV, press, radio and outdoor work, which positions the city as a “sparkling” retail and leisure destination for Christmas and the New Year.

Chosen is also in the fifth year of its partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital. With Christmas traditionally a tough time for fundraisers, the agency has provided creative support for “Light Up A Child’s Life”, which encourages members of the public to dedicate a light on the hospital’s huge Christmas tree in return for a small donation.

The campaign is designed make a crucial contribution to new equipment and facilities as the hospital seeks to continually improve the quality of care that it provides to thousands of young people.

Chosen chairman Jon Derry said he had been delighted with what has been achieved.

He said: “With most of our clients outside Birmingham, it’s fantastic to be activating thousands of people to support our home city in different ways.

"Our work for Birmingham City Council, Marketing Birmingham and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, shows the positive, inspiring side of our city that doesn’t always receive the coverage it deserves.”
