The board of Birmingham Post publisher Trinity Mirror has announced the appointment of a new chairman.
David Grigson, formerly chief financial officer of news agency Reuters Group and media company EMAP, will replace Sir Ian Gibson on May 29.
He will lead the search to find a new chief executive following the resignation of Sly Bailey earlier this month in a row over pay.
The company said Mr Grigson will take up the position earlier than previously announced to enable a smooth transition ahead of the company’s interim results announcement in August.
Mr Grigson, who has been a non-executive director of Trinity Mirror since the start of this year, said: "The board thanks Sir Ian for his leadership over the last six years, and I look forward to working more closely with the team."
Mr Grigson is currently chairman of Creston and a non-executive director of Standard Life and Ocado Group.
He was previously a non-executive director of Carphone Warehouse.
Sir Ian Gibson said: "I have enjoyed working with the Trinity Mirror team and can see that with David Grisgon as Chairman, they will continue to develop their strategy of maximising the benefits of a strong print portfolio while building a good range of digital businesses."
