Birmingham-based film director Roger Shannon has been appointed Honorary Visiting Professor on a new MA to help film producers hone their business skills.
Mr Shannon, who has been associated with over 20 UK feature films including Butterfly Kiss and Lawless Heart, will lecture on the MA in International Film Business starting in October at Glasgow Caledonian University.
The programme is designed for producers who already have creative ideas they want to take forward, but need the skills, knowledge and connections to bring their ideas to life.
As teaching will take place at weekends, with film industry insiders teaching intensive masterclasses, the course expects to draw producers from all over the country.
Mr Shannon helped validate the MA shortly after his stint as head of production at Scottish Screen, Scotland’s national development agency for the screen industries.
He said: “This seemed to flow seamlessly from work that I was doing in Scotland at the time so I was pleased to transfer my knowledge into the university.”
Mr Shannon’s company, swish, recently produced the new film, The Gloaming, directed by John Bradburn and Andy Paton for the UK Film Council and Screen WM.
He was the founding director of the Birmingham International Film and Television Festival and the first chairman of Birmingham’s Media Development Agency.
