WAA, the Midlands’ largest independent advertising agency, has acquired Leamington Spa-based web development and design agency MarketingNet.
The deal, which will mean MarketingNet’s staff and clients transfer to WAA’s office in Sutton Coldfield, saw WAA purchase MarketingNet from Day, a global software provider listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange.
MarketingNet was founded in 1995 and acquired by Day in October 2000. The agency specialises in the development and delivery of customer-focused internet, extranet and intranet solutions and has particular expertise in content management and e-commerce systems.
WAA chief executive Andrew Wilson said: “The acquisition of MarketingNet marks the latest phase in the realisation of our strategic growth plan, and follows the acquisition of WebXpress in 2006. It provides clear proof of our intentions to significantly grow WAA and further establish our position as one of the UK’s leading integrated marketing agencies.
“MarketingNet’s systems, expertise and experience combine with our existing digital capabilities to make us one of the leading contenders in the digital space. Their skill set and European client base complements ours, making it a very attractive and logical investment.
“Despite the economic downturn, WAA is in a strong position financially, has venture capital investment in place and, crucially, is culturally and structurally prepared for acquisitional growth. While we are proactively engaged in discussions with a number of target businesses operating in all areas of the marketing mix, we are also in a position to act swiftly when the right opportunities present themselves – a scenario which is highly likely in this economy.”
